BLACKBIRD
Written, produced and co-directed by John Amedro, who also stars. A man whose hopes and aspirations are slowly extinguished by the life choices he has made. During a seizure, the images that seep from his subconscious are what truly tell his story.
Bare feet. A snow covered forest. Moss that turns black, barren trees, a fox, an owl, and pods full of dead blackbirds. Through their meanings he rebuilds his character, resurrects his dream, and flies.
The long road to the work.
John Amedro is a New York character actor and filmmaker whose work is built on emotional truth and a lifelong pull toward storytelling. It began with a chance encounter. As an architecture student he wandered into a university production of A Midsummer Night's Dream, and within a year he had transferred schools to chase the work that changed his life.
He spent years studying with Greg Zittel, interned for Broadway producer Rick Hobard, and worked alongside director Alan Schneider and lyricist Joe Stein on the Broadway bound Before the Dawn, with a stint on All My Children. On screen he has led independent features including I'm Fine and The Color of Truth. On stage he produced and performed in W.B. Yeats's Purgatory. When the work grew scarce, he built his own, writing, producing and co-directing the festival winning short film BLACKBIRD, a dream resurrected.

"While an architectural student at the University of Miami, I stumbled upon their theater building one night and walked in to see A Midsummer Night's Dream. I was completely immersed in the set design as I settled in a seat surrounded by foliage and vines hanging overhead. This was life changing and within a year I transferred schools and was auditioning for theater roles. This led me to New York City and I began chasing the dream."
